Old Fort Point, Jasper National Park, Alberta, CA

Old Fort Point is another hike that we do multiple times a year. There is a trail system here so you can travel the loop along the Athabasca River several different ways with different distances, for the more adventurous, this trail system also connects you with Lake Annette and Lake Edith near Jasper Park Lodge, and with several other local hotspots if you’re looking to do a lengthier bike ride or hike. This area is great for dogs like ours (Aspen is a senior and we don’t like to take her much over 14 km a day). There are gorgeous river and alpine views, areas where you can overlook the town of Jasper and the above mentioned lakes as well as opportunities to stumble across herds of bighorn sheep and I even spotted my first mountain goat in this area. Its proximity to Jasper makes it a nice place to end the day or a great spot to hang out if bad weather has been rolling in and out of the area. My husband and I have grabbed supper in Jasper and come to eat by the rivers edge or up on the hill with the few others that have come to watch the sunset go down and to us, that is priceless compared to sitting in a fancy restaurant. Although we do like fancy restaurants, see my tab on dining for more on that.

As you can imagine anywhere is town is convenient to access this location but the Jasper Park Lodge connects directly to this trail system if you’re looking for adventure that doesn’t even require getting into your vehicle. Check out the trail system on All Trails and pop me a comment if you have any tips for anyone visiting the trails!
