Athabasca Falls is a year round splendour. This high volume waterfall is one of the main attractions in Jasper National Park and for good reason, every direction you turn, you’re met with picturesque beauty. You will be surrounded by tourists at this destination… unless.. you choose to visit in the winter. If you stop at the falls during the winter you’ll have more privacy, more opportunity to grab that photo you want at the perfect angle and a whole different set of views including frozen emerald ice.
In the summer, you have the option to camp very close by at Wabasso Campground which can help with getting there early! In the summer you will also get to enjoy the entirety of the trail system as well as the emerald canyon that the falls feed. It’s certainly worth a visit in both summer and winter but consider this your warning about the crowds you can encounter in the summer months 😉
