Talbot Lake Viewpoint, Jasper National Park, Alberta, CA

A favourite hike for quick and easy lake views just outside of the town of Jasper. Hike up here to enjoy a picnic and enjoy the panoramic mountains. We hike this little trail almost every time we go to Jasper, it’s dog friendly (not too steep) in both summer and winter. In winter I would recommend a hiking pole or two and ice cleats. In the summer you could hike up this hill in sandals if you wanted to! This is another spot that is primarily used as a roadside pullout and many don’t realize that there is a short hike if you follow the sandy trails toward the hill. At the top of the hill you’ll enjoy goat sightings, aerial views of the 3 bodies of water below and mountain tops in every direction. It truly is a hidden gem. The trailhead also falls right at a lovely spot on the base of the lake that is perfect for hand launching a canoe, kayak or paddle board. This spot is a little more quiet than the main boat launch on the lake that sees more traffic and avoiding the crowds is one of our main focuses while travelling the national parks. Find the finer details of this hike on All Trails.

Places to stay nearby include Snaring River Campground, and our two favourite dog friendly accommodations, Jasper East Cabins and Jasper Park Lodge.
